Vice President for Finance and Administration
Kingsborough Community College (KCC), founded in 1963, is a community college in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. The college serves a diverse student population with a focus on career-related fields and liberal arts. KCC operates with an annual budget of $186M and a projected capital budget of $250M over the next 10 years, enrolling approximately 20,000 students annually across degree programs, dual enrollment, and continuing education. KCC has been recognized for outcomes among minority students and is designated as a Leader College of Distinction by Achieving the Dream and twice recognized by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.
Position Overview
The Vice President for Finance and Administration is responsible for major college finance and operating divisions and serves as a member of the President's Cabinet. The role leads an executive team responsible for budget, operations, and facilities and collaborates with college and university executives, external organizations, and stakeholders to develop policy and acquire resources. The Vice President provides management, vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for the following major functions:
Administrative Affairs: campus public safety, environmental health and safety, risk management and insurance, records management, regulatory compliance, property and asset management, and events management.
Business and Accounting: annual operating budget development and implementation, multi-year budget projections, accounts receivable/payable, general accounting, grant and contract accounting, purchasing, travel, and bursar operations.
Facilities: management of buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and utilities on a large campus with aging infrastructure; planning and coordination of complex capital projects.
Auxiliary Services (related not-for-profit entities): oversight of bookstore, conference/event rentals, parking services, and campus dining services.
The Vice President supports development of a strategic budget vision, cost-benefit analyses, forecasting, and securing new funding, and collaborates with the Senior Vice President and President on these efforts. The position also involves long-term planning related to the Finance and Administration department in support of student success.
Responsibilities
Provide management and oversight of major financial and administrative functions in alignment with college and university policies.
Deliver regular financial management reports to the President and university partners; implement best practices in administrative and fiscal services.
Lead planning for the college's budget and resource allocation, balancing strategic priorities with operational needs.
Collaborate with campus leaders, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to advance the college's strategic goals.
Qualifications This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree in Business Administration or a closely related field.
Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in finance and administrative management, including the creation of management systems and analyses to support complex budgets and administrative structures.
Extensive management experience and demonstrated ability to work with staff, across divisions, with faculty, external stakeholders, and board members.
Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, make decisions, and implement strategic initiatives.
Experience managing complex budgets, implementing efficiencies, and aligning resources with institutional priorities, including public sector procurement and contract management.
Significant experience in higher education or public-sector institutions and working with complex urban institutions and government agencies.
Strong knowledge of compliance, regulatory frameworks, risk management, and business continuity planning.
Familiarity with collective bargaining environments and shared governance structures.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership and hiring.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; outstanding organizational and administrative abilities.
Compensation and Benefits Compensation: $175,000 – $195,000. CUNY provides benefits contributing to health and wellness, financial security, and professional development, including health plans, retirement/pension options, tuition waivers for CUNY graduate study, and generous paid time off.
