Located inside the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, Thrive Here @Auburn features a coffee bar and coffee roastery where students will be immersed in the process of making artisanal coffee beverages from bean to cup. Roasting, grinding, tamping, pouring, and serving will be just a few of the hands-on learning activities for student training. Hotel guests and local patrons who visit the roastery will taste the quality of Auburn-roasted beans in every cup of handcrafted coffee. The Cafe Manager position will oversee all aspects of both Thrive Coffee bars (AULUA and AUHCC) including the revenue generation, staffing levels, product procurement, and performance management. This role is responsible for the continued success and growth of both coffee bars and will support the day to day operations of all team members to ensure an efficient and profitable operation. Duties Ability to thoughtfully engage with all guests visiting both Thrive Here @Auburn cafés about the concept and partnership with Auburn University and Thrive Farmers International. Oversee our team's and guest's experiences following Thrive Here @ Auburn, Thrive Farmers, and IHP's standards of service. Monitor, observe, and measure guest's café experience at both locations. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests and ensure team is trained properly to handle guest requests/issues (Service Recovery/LEARN) Uphold food & beverage excellence at both locations by adhering to the standards and recipes of Thrive Here @Auburn. Work in coordination with Director of Coffee and Executive Pastry Chef on seasonal updates to food & beverage offerings. Collaborate with the Director of Coffee and Executive Pastry Chef to analyze menu performance and guest purchasing trends to optimize profitability and reduce waste. Work closely with the Director of Coffee Operations, Assistant Café Manager and Café Supervisors to ensure all outlets are operated in a neat, clean manner, and that ServSafe and local health code standards are met at both locations. Receive a score of 95 or higher on all health inspections. Ensure execution of daily "huddles" to keep staff at both locations informed of pertinent information. Ensure daily cash handling, POS audits, and deposit procedures are followed accurately for both café locations. Plan and and execute monthly departmental meetings for both cafes with assistance from Assistant Café Manager. Ensure the Completion and distribution of daily revenue reports, recaps, etc. for both Thrive Here @Auburn cafes (AUHCC, AULAU) . Submit monthly Royalty reporting by the 15th of each month to brand manager and payment voucher to accounting. Own both café's P&L performance, proactively managing cost of goods, labor, and flow-through in alignment with budget goals. Ensure Forecasts are reviewed, and daily revenue reports are updated with accurate budget and revenue goals for both cafes. Ensure Outlet Requisitions are submitted within a timely manner as needed for all cafes using ADACO and that any changes in par levels communicated to purchasing manager /team. Order products through ADACO in a timely manner to ensure continuous operations of both cafés. Ensure Inventory is accurately counted weekly, and month-end and vendor invoices are processed timely in our point-of-sale system and
purchasing/receiving
software. Ensure maintenance on all café equipment is taking place proactively following manufacturer's recommended PM schedules and repair services are coordinated as needed. Analyze Point of Sale data, departmental budgets, and financial data to ensure we are maximizing sales and profits, understanding food and labor costs across our department. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the staff at both cafes. Utilizing departmental trainers and supervisors, ensure all training needs are met with both students and employees. Ensure support for Assistant Café Manager and supervisors to maintain excellent service and quality standards across the RCSC Café and The Hotel at Auburn University café. Interview, select, train, supervise, counsel, and discipline Assistant Café Manager, outlet(s) supervisors and staff at both locations. Ensure the weekly schedule for team members is prepared at least one week in advance, preferably three for both cafes. Handle shift coverage issues as they arise and ensure operation shifts at the cafe weekly and be onsite. This could require you to work 40 or more hours. Work in coordination with Director of Training, Director of F&B, and Director of Coffee to create and maintain a written training program and all team members trained through Schoox. Contribute to the instruction of students of the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management. Be available to perform lateral service as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of both cafes as directed by the Director of Coffee or immediate supervisor. Attend all marketing meetings each week and take the lead in the development and execution of seasonal promotions and product launches in alignment with brand marketing. Assist Director of Coffee and Roasting and Production Supervisor with completing roastery operations as needed. Working closely with Hey Day Market on launching and activating the Hey Day Ape Piaggio for community events to highlight and showcase beverages through Thrive Here @ Auburn.
Working Conditions: Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time, consecutively. Working in an environment around espresso, coffee brewing, and coffee roasting equipment which could present hot temperatures and heavy lifting. Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver large bags of beans weighing up to 50 pounds or using equipment to assist lift. Team members must have a flexible work schedule and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays. Qualifications Experience as a supervisor or leader in a café or similar operation required. Possess basic math skills and can handle money and operate a point-of-sale system. Positive Attitude and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation in a coffee environment
