Amca
Overview
Amca is building airplanes for the 21st century, starting by designing new hardware that flies on today’s planes. Aviation was once humanity’s boldest ambition, but the industry hasn’t successfully built a new plane in 40 years. We don’t think it has to be this way. You will take mechanical products from concept to flight qualification. Your primary function will be to expand Amca's product catalog by designing new aerospace hardware and working closely with build and test engineers to bring your products to life. As a senior engineer at an early start up, you will also be responsible for setting up Amca's design processes for the future. Responsibilities
Own design and prototyping of new mechanical hardware Work with customers to understand end-use applications and challenge requirements as needed Take full ownership of mechanical design for flight hardware, including 3D modeling, structural analysis, detailed drawings, tolerance analysis, and material selection Prototype new components with manufacturability, integration, and performance as core constraints Work with test engineering to define and execute qualification plans including fixture design, environmental testing, and iterative design refinement Work closely with build engineers to ensure new designs are manufacturable at production facilities and DFM feedback is implemented Manage drawing revisions, BOM structure, and part configuration in accordance with aerospace standards and internal design controls Continue to iterate on Amca designs to ensure they are fully optimized for reliability and cost
Be a leader in developing Amca's design processes Assist in standard CAD and structural analysis/hand calc best practices Assist in PLM development and configuration management for design documentation
Support Amca with subsidiary diligence and company development Evaluate product catalogs and help determine where largest opportunities lie for catalog expansion Assist in the evaluation of subsidiary design, manufacturing, and test capabilities Mentor early career mechanical engineers Assist with recruiting mechanical engineers and building the mechanical engineering team at Amca
Qualifications
5+ years conducting mechanical design in a professional environment Proficient in mechanical design and applying first-principles to structural, thermal, fluid, and production constraints. Proficient in CAD, PLM/PDM systems, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Proficient in a form of mechanical design analysis (structural/fluids/thermal FEM) Demonstrated ability to use engineering first principles to challenge and simplify requirements to reduce overall timeline of design cycle Demonstrated ability to work closely with build and test engineering resources to ensure designs are both manufacturable and testable in fast paced environment. Exceptionally curious and fast learner; able to contribute across diverse part categories and manufacturing processes Hands-on and practical—comfortable building, testing, and troubleshooting in real-world, fast paced environments Independent and creative; thrives with ownership and minimal oversight This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a US person as: any individual who is granted U.S. citizenship; or any individual who is granted U.S. permanent residence ("Green Card" holder); or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person" under 8 U.S.C 1324b(a)(3). The Advanced Manufacturing Company of America prohibits discrimination or harassment based on the following categories: race, color, religion, religious creed (including religious dress and grooming practices), national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical or mental disability, medical condition (including cancer and genetic characteristics), genetic information, marital status, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or related medical conditions), gender, gender identity, gender expression, age (40 years and over), sexual orientation, veteran and/or military status, protected medical leaves (requesting or approved for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act or the California Family Rights Act), domestic violence victim status, political affiliation, and any other status protected by state or federal law.
