Mechanical Engineer, Structures Heron Power is a startup company building cutting‑edge power electronics for the 21st‑century grid.

We aim to debottleneck the growth of electricity generation and consumption with scalable, innovative, and less costly hardware solutions, accelerating the electrification of everything.

What you can expect:

A dynamic, collaborative environment driven by first‑principles engineering, where you will be able to learn and grow alongside seasoned veterans who have designed and shipped gigawatts of power conversion products.

Job Overview:

As Lead Structures Engineer you will design and deliver mass‑manufacturable enclosures for power converters as part of a small, multidisciplinary engineering team.

You will create 3‑D designs and 2‑D drawings, prototype, test, and work hands‑on while owning designs from concept through high‑volume production.

Collaboration will be key across mechanical, electrical, test, manufacturing, and external supplier partners.

How you will contribute:

Design mass‑manufacturable parts and assemblies for power converters (enclosures, plastics, heatsinks, insulators, transformers, connectors, PCBAs, bolted joints, adhesive joints).

Own parts and assemblies from initial concept to high‑volume production.

Apply first‑principles design, optimizing parts through structural, thermal, and tolerance analysis.

Create 3‑D designs and 2‑D drawings using CATIA V6/3DX.

Prototype and test designs hands‑on.

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, reliability teams, and external partners/suppliers.

What you will bring:

Must‑have requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similar.

3+ years of full‑time industry experience designing mechanical parts or assemblies.

3+ years of full‑time industry experience working with 3‑D CAD (CATIA V6/3DX preferred).

Strong engineering fundamentals and basic understanding of electronics.

Experience designing enclosures for electromechanical parts or assemblies.

Experience with high‑volume manufacturing processes (fastening, sheet‑metal bending, stamping, injection molding, diecasting, extrusion, dispensing).

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice‑to‑have:

Outdoor‑rated industrial enclosure design.

PCBAs, connectors, fuses, and other electronic components design.

FEA, CFD, multi‑physics modeling (Ansys, MATLAB, Python, Simulink, StarCCM, etc.).

GD&T and tolerance analysis.

Reliability and validation testing, DFMEA.

Product lifecycle management (PLM) and controlled release processes.

Medium voltage (34.5 kV) or grid‑related products (switchgear, circuit breakers, insulation).

Compensation ranges from $120,000 to $220,000 per year plus equity.

This is a full‑time, mid‑senior level position located in Scotts Valley, CA.

Referrals are encouraged; we look forward to hearing from candidates passionate about technology and eager to thrive in a fast‑paced startup.
