Job Responsibilities

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending Physician. The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee. Provide consistent, high-quality perioperative/postoperative care for all surgery patients. Function as an active member of the surgery patient care team. Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, perioperative and postoperative management, hospital rounds on inpatients, and emergency room consultations. Work to the full extent of licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy.

Qualifications

Required APN Current APN Certification Current RN NJ state license CDS DEA Current BLS/ACLS RNFA Certification exception if Surgical NP certification has surgical assist built into program Required Physician Assistant Current Physician Assistant Certification CDS DEA Current BLS/ACLS Preferred Acute care certification 3 to 5 years of acute care hospital experience Scheduling Requirements Scheduled as needed Days, Night Shift, Weekends, Holidays Essential Functions Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical procedures; order appropriate laboratory, radiologic and diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical team. See emergent consultations in the ED when appropriate, and treat conditions within the APP scope of practice and experience. Communicate about complicated surgical emergencies and prepare appropriately for surgery. Assist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned. Involve procedures such as insertion/discontinuation of central lines, chest tubes, arterial lines, wound dressing changes, bedside procedures, and temporary dialysis catheters, and conduct daily physical exams; address patient concerns. Explain procedures thoroughly to patients prior to testing. Interpret laboratory/diagnostic testing accurately. Discharge patients in collaboration with the attending physician. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication, and time management. Performs duties independently and coordinates care with the bedside nurse, attending physician, and other consulting providers. Interact compassionately with patients across different care areas.
