About the Department The Department of Humanities at Georgia State University's Perimeter College is home to American Sign Language, humanities, journalism, philosophy, religious studies, speech communication, and world languages. The humanities department contributes to the essential liberal arts foundation of the academic curriculum, and humanities faculty are passionate about teaching and are dedicated to the highest quality of instruction. Humanities faculty challenge students to think critically and deeply, to develop multicultural awareness, and to develop their minds and their skills in a way that will foster both personal and professional success. The highly accomplished humanities faculty not only equip students with the skills they’ll need for successful careers, but also with the skills they’ll need to be effective and engaged citizens.
Position Description Perimeter College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Communications. This is a teaching-focused position: 80% of the workload is instruction, with service and scholarly and creative activity accounting for 10% each. Perimeter faculty are responsible for providing 27-32 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engaging in service to the department, college, and university. Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in an access institution. Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution, and the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses.
Required Experience Assistant professor:
Some college teaching experience, which may include graduate teaching assistant work as an instructor of record, part-time instructor work, or similar experience. Salary range: $49,082 - $54,082
Associate professor:
Candidate must have held the rank previously at a comparable institution for a minimum of one academic year. Salary range: $54,082-$57,082
Required Education A Ph.D. in the teaching field is required by the time of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform.
Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and/or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods with a demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations None specified.
Pre-Employment Requirements A criminal background check is required.
Work Hours Position may require non-standard hours (including day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations).
