Job Description Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) seeks a Safety & Health Division Director to develop, implement, and maintain safety and health programs that comply with federal, state, local regulations, and DOE requirements. This leadership role fosters a culture of safety, health, and wellness across the laboratory, supporting world‑class research while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement. The position reports directly to the ESH&Q Director.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive safety and health program that meets or exceeds DOE regulations, standards, and guidelines.
Lead and supervise a team of safety and health professionals, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
Oversee Radiological Protection, Radiological Engineering, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Chemical Hygiene departments.
Collaborate with laboratory leadership, research staff, and other departments to integrate safety and health considerations into all laboratory operations.
Monitor and analyze safety and health performance metrics and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
Ensure timely reporting and investigation of incidents, accidents, and near‑misses, and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
Stay current with DOE regulations, industry standards, and best practices in safety and health, and communicate updates to the organization.
Promote a culture of safety, health, and wellness through proactive engagement, communication, and education initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety and health management, with a proven track record in a leadership role, preferably within a research or laboratory environment.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans for safety and health programs.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and 8 years of experience.
In‑depth knowledge of DOE safety and health regulations, standards, and best practices.
Certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent.
