Director of Development

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Department: Development Pay: $150,000-$165,000 per year (DOE)

Job Title Director, Development
Primary Responsibilities
Maintain and grow a portfolio of 50 individual and institutional donors capable of giving $10,000+ annually.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, corporate, foundation, and government grants.
Lead resource mobilization strategies with program directors to support agency revenue goals.
Develop corporate and community sponsorships for annual fund events and publications.
Build a culture of philanthropy that attracts staff, board members, and donors.
Collaborate with Director of Marketing and Communications on annual giving appeals and special campaigns through multi‑channel strategy.
Ensure integrity of community’s donor database in Raiser’s Edge.
Work with Grants & Data Manager to maintain accurate donor records and reporting.
Work with Grants & Data Manager to submit corporate, foundation, and government grant applications.
Work with Events and Engagement Manager to develop high‑yield, high‑impact fundraising events.
Coordinate stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation strategies with key staff and board.
Coordinate with Finance on gifts, contracts, and grants processes.
Evaluate and improve internal systems, metrics, policies, and procedures for development effectiveness.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related field.
Minimum five years of successful individual, events, and/or institutional fundraising experience.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Leadership experience, including board engagement and partnership with stakeholders.
Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth.
Expert knowledge of trends in major gifts giving, solicitation, and fundraising campaigns.
Proven success in asking for and closing major gifts.
Proven success in writing and securing grants.
Valid CA driver license, reliable transportation, auto insurance, and acceptable driving history for business travel.
Physical Requirements
Stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
Fine motor skill of typing, writing, filing, and visual acuity.
Sit for extended periods performing work on a computer and phone.
Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
Travel to engage with external stakeholders.
