Parsons is seeking a dynamic and seasoned professional to join our team as a Principal Level Highway Design Engineer, supporting the landmark NYSDOT I-81 Viaduct Project. This $2.0B project, the largest in NYSDOT’s history, is transforming the fabric of Central New York. For 80 years, Parsons has been a leader in the integrated design and delivery of civil infrastructure. This role is available on a hybrid schedule in New York state, with remote options available for qualifying candidates. What You’ll Be Doing
Lead with Excellence: Oversee the technical excellence of engineering functions across projects, ensuring seamless coordination of technical disciplines and the development of innovative project alternatives, from preliminary to final design. Mentor and Guide: Provide technical direction and design leadership, mentoring junior engineers on roadway design projects for local and state agencies, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Design and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive design and construction documents, including horizontal/vertical geometric designs, superelevation computations, plan and profile sheets, cross-sections, public hearing display boards, design exception and waiver documentation, cost estimates, and QA/QC documents. Collaborate and Coordinate: Work closely with the project team and interdisciplinary technical personnel to ensure cohesive project execution. Support Project Management: Assist the project manager in delivering project milestones, ensuring adherence to client criteria and scope. Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for clients and project managers, ensuring clear communication and project transparency. Resource Management: Assist in identifying and managing project resources, liaising with support departments, other offices, or subsidiaries to assemble effective project teams. Business Development: Contribute to identifying new project pursuits, gather intelligence on potential opportunities, participate in Parsons’ pursuit process, and potentially lead responses to client requests for proposals/qualifications. What Required Skills & Qualifications You’ll Bring
Educational Background: A 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or related field). Experience: 8+ years of related work experience, with a proven track record in roadway and highway design. Professional Credentials: Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required. Technical Expertise: Proficiency with MicroStation v8i and Geopak is essential; experience with Civil3D and ORD (Open Roads Designer) is preferred. Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively. Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with industry practices and regulations, with specific experience working with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and other relevant agencies. Location
