Overview
The SANE Coordinator will oversee the University of Chicago/AdventHealth Hinsdale, La Grange, Bolingbrook, and Glen Oaks hospitals SANE program to maintain regulatory compliance for the state of Illinois. A SANE Coordinator will actively be involved in the continued evidence-based development of best practices to ensure individualized and desired outcomes at discharge. A SANE practice provides compassionate care to aid the recovery of patients who are victims of sexual assault. The SANE Coordinator will also supervise, and coordinate department staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care. The SANE Coordinator will oversee the SANE program across specified facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance and advancing evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes in sexual assault care. The Value You'll Bring To The Team
Acts as a 24-hour on-call resource to program participants. Oversight of daily operations for 24-7 response coverage. Maintains regulatory compliance for the SANE program. Acts autonomously following professional standards as outlined by SASETA, the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, the International Association of Forensic Nurses Scope and Standards of Practice, and unit-specific protocols. Audits and maintains policies and procedures regarding care of sexual assault patients to support hospital designation as a Sexual Assault Treatment Center. Drives change to enhance professionalism, efficiency, competency, and cost containment within the SANE program. Collaborates with physicians, caregivers, and diagnostic/therapeutic services to provide input in patient care and monitor progress. Collaborates with the SANE Coordinator for the Illinois Attorney General's Office and maintains collegial relationships with other SANE coordinators statewide. Educates patients and families to meet health needs and aid in recovery. Stays current with evidence-based information and trends in forensic and SANE nursing practice. Acts as a role model in patient care and mentors nurses for the SANE role. Leads monthly peer review of SANE cases and coordinates documentation and communication with ED leadership. Creates, maintains, and distributes the SANE call schedule. Develops best practice models for sexually assaulted patients in collaboration with the SANE Medical Director. Maintains documentation standards with accurate, timely recording and reporting; ensures staff compliance with SASETA. Maintains knowledge of current clinical concepts and practices. Maintains necessary supplies and equipment to conduct medical-forensic examinations. Participates in in-services, department and hospital meetings, and continuing education; may develop and conduct in-services for staff. Participates in long-range planning, goal setting, program development, and evaluation for the SANE program. Performs work safely, following departmental safety rules; reports hazards to supervision promptly. Performs other related duties as required. Provides a learning environment by sharing knowledge with coworkers and participating in orientation of new staff. Provides data for accurate record management and quality assurance processes. Coordinates recruitment and orientation to the SANE program and supports educational activities related to the program. Functions as a teaching and collaborative role and supports continuous quality improvement to improve patient outcomes and resource utilization. Testifies in court as an expert and/or fact witness and assists other SANEs in preparing for testimony. Analyzes physical, psychological, and social needs of patients to develop individualized care plans and evaluate responses to interventions. Works with State's Attorneys Offices, Law Enforcement, Illinois Attorney General's Office, and local victim services; engages with the community to educate on SANE programs and violence prevention.
