Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Customer Solutions team reporting to Senior Director of Customer Solutions in the Midwest region for Quest Diagnostics. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying highly scalable, high performance data integration and transformation solutions in Quest’s enterprise data platform. This role will focus on building intelligent dashboards, automating operational workflows, and leveraging data insights to enhance decision making for both internal and external customers. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong self‑motivated autonomy, ownership mindset and a passion for innovation through data, technology and AI. Location & Travel
10% travel. Qualified candidates near a Quest laboratory location in the Midwest states are considered. Eligible states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Five main laboratories: Lenexa, Wood Dale, St. Louis, Denver, Cincinnati. Compensation
Pay Range: $97,000 - $127,000 per year. Salary offers are based on factors including skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus. Benefits

Dashboard & Reporting Development
Support and enable the development of Business Intelligence and Data Science solutions, design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, etc. for customer performance, financial, and operational insights. Develop algorithms and processes to transform data into useful, actionable information. Ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and visualization consistency across platforms. Automate recurring reporting processes to improve efficiency and timeliness. Operational Workflow Automation & Data Engineering
Understand requirements from operational and business teams to identify automation opportunities and streamline manual processes. Develop and optimize digital workflows for client onboarding, approval process, and reporting using tools such as UiPath, Power Automate, Alteryx, Salesforce, or similar CRM platforms. Manage data pipelines and integrations between multiple systems (UiPath, CRM, ERP, Salesforce, and reporting platforms). Ensure data governance, compliance, and quality across all sources. Data Analysis & AI Integration
Use artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to identify emerging trends, anomalies, and patterns in customer and financial data to create actionable insights. Provide data‑driven recommendations to highlight opportunities, risks, and areas that need attention. Collaborate with business and customer teams to translate insights into actionable strategies. Work closely with teams – Customer Solutions, Commercial, Billing, Finance, National – to understand business acumen and needs, delivering impactful technical data and digitized solutions for internal teams and enhancing external customer experience. Collaborate with other IT software engineers, architects, national RPA/AI teams to bring new perspectives to complex business problems. Project Ownership & Delivery
Take initiative in discussions and problem‑solving to understand business challenges and proactively propose data‑driven or automation‑based solutions. Operate with a high degree of autonomous motivation – don’t wait for a problem to come to you, seek problems to solve by yourself. Manage and prioritize projects independently from scoping to delivery, incorporate feedback loops, ensure timelines are met, and adjust to changing priorities. Conduct quick agile product roll‑outs, test, learn, and continuously improve with stakeholder feedback. Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field Required Work Experience
Strong experience in functional requirements gathering via stakeholder interviewing to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions promptly. 3-5 years’ experience with workflow automation tools such as Power Automate, Alteryx, UiPath. 3-5 years of experience in cloud‑based data warehouses such as Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse Analytics, etc. Strong proficiency in Tableau or Power BI for dashboard creation and storytelling. Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis/science and workflow automation. Proficiency and experience with SQL, ETL processes, and data modeling integrating data from multiple sources into a unified system. Preferred Work Experience
Exposure to version control systems such as Git or SVN. Understanding of and willingness to embrace Agile project management. Soft Skills
