Central Sterile Processing Instrument Tracking System Coordinator Join UChicago Medicine as a Central Sterile Processing Instrument Tracking System Coordinator in the Sterile Processing Department.

Base Pay Range $33.00/hr - $38.00/hr

Position: Full-Time (1.0 FTE). Shift: Rotating. Work Location: Onsite - Hyde Park.

The role is responsible for analyzing sterile processing metrics, OR surgical cases, loaner processing, inter‑departmental vendor compliance, sterilization efficiency, and assisting with technical advancements. You will manage instrument tracking systems and related technology, ensuring proper sterilization protocols.

Essential Job Functions

Provide inventory management, program management, technical support, reporting, and analytics to Perioperative Services, Endoscopy, and external areas.

Ensure accurate tracking system data management for all equipment, scopes, and instruments with special emphasis on data support functions.

Collaborate with SPD leadership/educators to create/revise count sheets, enter instrumentation and trays into the tracking system, including tray weights, pictures, and comments as needed.

Supply leadership with data/reports to monitor processes and adherence to SOPs related to instrument/scope reprocessing, staff productivity, and tray usage.

Assist in orientation and training of sterile processing employees and operating room staff regarding the instrument tracking system.

Monitor vendor instrument management processes: reception, inspection, system entry, contents verification, return to vendor, and removal from inventory; email reps if policies are not followed and alert SPD management when needed.

Implement and manage individual instrument marking/tracking processes.

Coordinate instrument repair needs, ensuring tracking system reflects repaired equipment.

Participate in department initiatives, meetings, and projects related to data or inventory management.

Create reports on sterilization efficiency, errors, trends, and compliance with regulatory agencies (AAMI, CDC, OSHA).

Optimize workflow by analyzing data, identifying inefficiencies, recommending improvements, and implementing best practices.

Liaise between sterile processing, operating rooms, and supply chain teams to provide data-driven insights, staff training, and performance feedback.

Maintain system integrity and troubleshoot sterile processing software, training staff on data entry and integration with hospital IT systems.

Participate in required education programs, orientation, and training courses to maintain competency.

Respect patient privacy and confidentiality, adhering to administrative policies and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge of hospital equipment, supplies, surgical instrumentation, and medical terminology.

5+ years in sterile processing (technician‑related experience).

Familiarity with advanced technical data systems.

Ability to react appropriately and effectively to emergency data requests.

Clear communicator.

Preferred Qualifications

3 years in a sterile processing leadership position.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, data analytics, nursing, or related healthcare fields.
