Sous Chef – Senior Living Community – Kirkland – FT
Join us at MorningStar Senior Living to lead our culinary operations in a senior living community. This non‑exempt, full‑time position offers a schedule of Sunday to Thursday, 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, with a pay rate of $30.00 per hour.
Job Summary The cook prepares, seasons, and serves nutritious, balanced meals, including meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads, desserts, bread, and pastries, as scheduled by the menus. The individual is responsible for adhering to federal and state regulations and company policies.
Job Responsibilities
Handle and prepare food that is palatable, appetizing, and attractive.
Comply with meal schedules.
Follow standard recipes, making independent decisions in line with experience.
Ensure proper food‑handling techniques and hazard controls.
Estimate quantities, portion control, and avoid waste.
Prepare ingredients (peel, wash, trim, cut).
Taste, smell, and observe food to ensure conformity to recipes.
Cook meals (bake, roast, stew, steam, etc.) and create gravities, stocks, dressings, sauces.
Prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cereals, and beverages.
Serve food according to dietary guidelines and check trays for completeness.
Qualifications
High school diploma preferred; minimum reading and writing ability.
Previous experience in dietary department of a health‑care facility preferred.
Ability to prepare and cook varied foods in large quantities, respecting special diets, seasoning, cooking times, and temperature control.
Ability to estimate quantities, limit waste, and utilize leftovers while serving attractive meals.
