Construction Utilities Inspector
for a federal construction project focused on rail, transit, and other transportation projects in NY & NJ.
The ideal candidate has
5+ years
of progressive experience in heavy civil construction with a focus on rails, tunnels, soil, excavation, and large shafts.
Full‑time, on‑site position. Candidates are expected to reside in or near the New York metropolitan area and must provide digital proof of licensure and certification for all U.S.‑based accolades, including an academic degree, prior to the interview.
Job Responsibilities
Perform daily site inspections of excavation, shaft activities, and linear construction.
Verify work against project specifications, safety standards, and engineering plans.
Confirm excavation practices align with design requirements for tunneling and large shafts.
Coordinate independent testing and contractor, subcontractor, and stakeholder field operations.
Enforce on‑site safety standards, including OSHA and other regulatory protocols.
Identify potential safety hazards, report violations, and ensure compliance with site‑specific safety plans.
Inspect materials and equipment used for excavation and tunneling for compliance with quality standards.
Document and report deviations or deficiencies, working with contractors to address issues promptly.
Maintain detailed records of daily work activities, site conditions, and inspection results.
Provide regular progress reports, including issues encountered and corrective actions taken, ensuring documentation aligns with project requirements.
Work closely with construction supervisors and engineers to resolve inspection concerns.
Communicate findings and collaborate on solutions to on‑site challenges such as unexpected ground conditions or equipment adjustments.
Perform other related duties and tasks as required.
Qualifications
Experience working on multiple concurrent projects.
5–10 years of construction supervision/inspection experience.
Experience with 26 kV TBM substation installation and/or design, generators, automatic transfer switches, and 480 V heavy equipment power distribution components.
OSHA 10 at minimum (additional training provided if required).
Ability to pass a TWIC and/or SWAC background check at High Level.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Fluent in English (written and spoken).
