Position Purpose: Manages the day-to-day activities of the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of distribution systems facilities, and related investigative activities on a routine and 24-hour emergency basis. Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Working closely with three direct reports, the Manager coordinates the activities of the Construction and Distribution Departments. The Construction Department is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and the installation, maintenance, repair and improvement of distribution system facilities such as mains, services, hydrants, valves, and other appurtenances. The Distribution Department is responsible for investigative work pertaining to customer or service issues, initiates the process for service relocations, manages facilities mark outs, plans and executes shutdowns and completes the annual hydrant and valve maintenance and testing programs. Prepares work plans for major construction and maintenance projects, develops procedures for accomplishment of those deviating from normal routine, and devises improvements in operations which will increase effectiveness, productivity, and realize cost savings. Liaison with municipal, county and state officials to coordinate company activities and jointly resolve matters of mutual concern. Periodically performs construction project work site inspections to assure work assignments are completed according to specifications. Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget of the department and regularly reports on budgetary matters to the Sr Director of Operations and the Director of Finance. In the absence of the Sr. Director of Operations, assumes some of the responsibilities of the daily operations at Hackensack Yard. Assures adherence to company and regulatory safety standards through implementation of training programs and field inspection of work sites. Plans and directs the work of subcontractors to assure completion of projects according to specifications and company standards. Oversees the selection of candidates for job vacancies and assesses training programs to ensure an effective workforce. Support managed growth projects in the Northern New Jersey division as required. Benefits

Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or management is preferred. 10 years of supervisory experience in public water supply transmission and distribution systems preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Understanding of hydraulic principles related to piping networks preferred. Ability to cope with emergency situations on a 24/7 basis in a dynamic customer service-oriented business. Ability to foster positive labor relations in a union shop environment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings of distribution networks. Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
