Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $131,520.00/yr
Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and proactive Reliability Manager to lead the mechanical maintenance efforts at our recently acquired and currently idled Orange, TX Paper Mill. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Reliability Manager will play a key role in the design, commissioning, start-up, and ongoing operations of the plant. This position will be responsible for building and developing a high-performance reliability team that will evaluate existing equipment to be used for restarting the facility and ensuring that it is ready for reliable continuous operations as we transition the facility to produce gypsum liner. Once in operation you will work to maintain the facility, driving equipment reliability, reducing unscheduled downtime, and implementing proactive maintenance strategies to support efficient long-term reliability and performance.
Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities
Lead and manage all aspects of mechanical maintenance of the paper mill with annual capacity of 20 BSF or 450,000 tons.
Lead the development and execution of reliability improvement projects, including root cause failure analysis (RCFA) to eliminate repetitive equipment issues and optimize maintenance costs.
Oversee preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs for mechanical equipment, ensuring integration with mill-wide operations to maximize asset uptime.
Mentor and develop reliability engineers, planners, and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practices in equipment care.
Manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for reliability and work management, reporting weekly on progress, costs, and benefits to mill leadership.
Collaborate with operations, engineering, and purchasing teams to ensure reliability is built into new projects, equipment procurement, and outage planning.
Conduct failure analysis on mechanical systems, implement corrective actions, and support tank, vessel, and pressure equipment integrity programs.
Introduce new reliability technologies, such as vibration analysis and lubrication optimization, to enhance predictive maintenance techniques.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for mechanical reliability, resolving issues mill-wide and promoting standards for essential care and preventive maintenance.
Plan and execute maintenance and repairs during outages, managing resources, contractors, and timelines to minimize production disruptions.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, safety enhancements, and environmental compliance through data analysis and risk-based decision-making.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent management experience; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) are a plus.
Proven expertise in mechanical maintenance, RCFA, predictive technologies (e.g., vibration, lubrication), and CMMS systems.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence teams, build consensus, and drive results in a fast‑paced setting.
Analytical mindset with experience in data‑driven problem‑solving, risk management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience as a Reliability Manager in the Paper Industry or similar heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of safety culture in manufacturing operations.
Excellent critical thinking skills and strategic vision.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent management experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a reliability, engineering, or similar management role within a large manufacturing facility.
