Overview
Under general supervision, this position oversees social media, graphic design, newsletters, video production and other digital communications tools; engages diverse audiences, strengthens public awareness and drives community engagement; performs other work as required.
Responsibilities
Develops and implements an integrated digital communications plan aligned with organizational goals
Identifies opportunities for audience engagement through digital storytelling
Ensures consistent brand identity across all digital platforms
Manages the County’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and NextDoor as well as other emerging platforms necessary to support County communications needs
Produces, edits and schedules content for social media
Develops and maintains social media calendars
Provides social media analytics, regular reports and adapts strategies to increase reach, engagement and effectiveness across platforms
Designs, edits and distributes internal and external digital newsletters
Leads video production from concept to final product for promotional, educational or event-related purposes
Works closely with County departments and staff to promote events, initiatives and impact stories
Assists with:
Production of communication pieces for internal and external audiences
Website content creation and site management
Podcast scheduling, taping, editing and posting
Essential functions of the position include but are not limited to: standing; working with and around others; working with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist-elbow/shoulder) for computer work and typing; vision acuity for computer work; hearing and speech for ordinary conversations; finger dexterity for typing.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, design or a related field and one year of experience in communications, digital media or marketing; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills, strong digital content development skills and creative ideas about how to deliver County messages. The individual will be detail oriented, solution oriented and have a successful track record in communication, social media management, marketing and /or public relations.
Qualifications
Experience working with a Board, Council, Executive Management, or professional marketing firm/entity
Experience developing a digital communications strategy
This position is safety sensitive.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
Core knowledge and skills include:
Principles and practices in communications, journalism, marketing and design
Associated Press style writing and writing for the web
Collaborative, organized and detail-oriented strategies, with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities
Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and video/audio editing tools
Core skills include:
Managing multiple communication channels and campaigns
Balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day content execution
Writing, editing and storytelling
E-mail marketing platforms, website content management systems and social media scheduling tools
Producing podcasts or videos
Core abilities:
Represent the County and present accurate information to the public in an interesting and professional manner
Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public, elected and appointed officials and employees
Perform outreach and community relations services
Exercise creativity and resourcefulness in developing communication programs, strategies and plans
Work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
Follow written and verbal instructions
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
