Assistant or Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry
Location: Lexington, KY. Position Type: Faculty. Full-Time, Tenure-Track. Expected start date: August 1, 2026. Distribution of Effort: 35% Teaching, 55% Research, 10% Departmental service.
Job Summary The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY invite applicants for a tenure‑eligible faculty position at the Assistant or Associate (preferred) Professor level in Medicinal Chemistry. The Department of Chemistry along with the Markey Cancer Center (Kentucky’s NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center) offer an inspiring, supportive and collaborative work environment that includes a broad range of faculty expertise with research interests spanning chemical biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cancer biology, systems pharmacology, cell biology, immunology, material science, protein engineering and medicine. This is a nine‑month position in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
Build an innovative research program in cancer medicinal chemistry/chemical biology.
Collaborate with scientists within the Department of Chemistry and the Markey Cancer Center and espouse scholarship to mentor Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in organic and/or biological chemistry.
Commit to a safe and supportive environment based on principles of creativity, collegiality, responsibility, rigor, and integrity.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology, pharmacology or related field is required.
Core expertise in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, drug discovery, development and design, especially as it pertains to advancing understanding and treatment of cancer, is preferred.
