Denison University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for a pursuit of a tenure‑track position at the Assistant Professor level. The department seeks a broadly trained psychological scientist whose work has an applied focus, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: child development, health, human factors, human sexuality, or social psychology.
Position Description We seek individuals who are deeply committed to education within the Liberal Arts tradition, and to helping undergraduate students understand and appreciate psychological science and its applications. Working closely with students is a primary responsibility of the job; candidates should be motivated to educate and support students inside and outside the classroom. The Department is situated in a natural‑sciences environment and strives to develop students’ critical and scientific reasoning skills and foster an engaged scholarly community.
Denison provides a supportive environment for teacher‑scholars with classroom and research excellence, including negotiable start‑up research funds, an annual professional development account, competitive professional development funding, a one‑semester research leave after a successful pre‑tenure review, and research/housing stipends for undergraduate research students during the summer. Faculty are also supported with internal funding for research during the academic year and a range of workshops and mentoring programs to enhance teaching‑scholarship.
Qualifications
Completion of a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field by the start date (ABD considered as Instructor until Ph.D. is attained; Ph.D. must be completed within one year of August 2026).
Ability to teach a range of courses including PSYC 100 (with a substantial lab component), Research Methods and Statistics, an intermediate elective and concurrent research course in the candidate’s specialty, and intermediate or advanced electives within the psychology curriculum. Teaching load: five courses per academic year.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, including evidence of successful undergraduate teaching and/or a commitment to an inclusive, evidence‑based pedagogy.
Evidence of research productivity in psychological science and potential to develop a productive research program with undergraduates on campus.
Willingness to contribute actively to the growth of the Department and the College.
Research perspective that complements those currently represented in the department.
