Estimated Salary: $198,219.00 – $297,329.00

Position Summary The Chief Perfusionist is responsible for managing the day-to-day clinical operation as well as the administrative functions of the Cardiac Perfusion services department.

The manager performs strategic short- and long‑range planning, performance improvement, staff competency and research.

The role establishes and maintains departmental policies, ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies (DHS, TJC, OSHA, etc.), and is accountable for the fiscal operations and capital budgets.

Leadership and direction are provided to the staff to promote quality, safe, and cost‑effective patient care.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategic plans and long‑range financial plans for the Cardiac Perfusion department.

Oversee staff competency, performance improvement, and research initiatives.

Establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.

Manage fiscal operations, including budgeting, capital budgeting, and financial reporting.

Provide leadership and direction for staff, fostering a culture of safety and quality patient care.

Required Qualifications

Ten (10) years of experience as a perfusionist, preferably in a level‑one trauma center.

Leadership experience in strategic planning, long‑range financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.

In‑depth knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies, including extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, cannulae, blood components, and plasma composition.

Demonstrated perfusion experience with all levels of patient populations (adult, pediatric, infant).

Advanced knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, with emphasis on cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Strong customer‑service skills and ability to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

Ability to apply TJC, CDC, and AABB standards and protocols to operating‑room procedures and departmental policies.

Commitment to maintaining a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment and fostering effective relationships across the health system.

Licenses and Certifications

Certified Cardiac Perfusionist

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred)
