Job Overview The Clinical Assessment Specialist is a critical member of our hospital business development team, working to get patients admitted to our acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals quickly. This role supports field clinical liaisons with patient assessment and pull-through, bridging patient care and business processes.

Responsibilities

Work with Admission Department and acute care hospital personnel to secure insurance authorization or coordination of benefits for admission.

Assess a patient’s eligibility and feasibility for rehabilitation services with field Clinical Liaisons, Senior Clinical Liaison, or Director of Business Development.

Review and analyze medical records and history to determine suitability for rehabilitation services.

Prepare detailed preadmission assessments, meeting regulatory requirements and reflecting critical thinking and rationale for admission.

Participate in meetings with hospital leadership, DBD, and clinical liaisons to provide market intelligence and share strategies.

Support team members in the field or admissions office as appropriate.

Assist with insurance authorization backup.

Obtain timely authorization of all patients requiring pre-certification; monitor conversion percentage and results.

Ensure compliance with commercial pre-certification and authorization policies to minimize financial risk.

Maintain relationship profiles with payor case managers and medical directors; identify preferences or best practice coversheets.

Develop and maintain professional credibility; build confidence with leadership and teammates.

Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Current and valid state licensure or eligibility as a Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist; multi-state licensure required based on territory.

Two years related experience in a clinical healthcare setting, with demonstrated competency in the preadmission process, assessments, transitions of care communication, and patient pull-through.

Previous experience in rehabilitation or another post-acute care setting preferred.

Demonstrated computer proficiency.

Must exercise sound judgment in handling professional/confidential health care information.
