Job Summary/Purpose The communications specialist will be a member of the utility and customer communications team working collaboratively with colleagues in the communications organization and internal business partners across the company. This role will serve as a support function to the company’s customer organization and chief customer officer. Additionally, this role will help develop and execute communications plans for internal and external communications, as well as long‑term, annual and campaign‑specific communications that support the company’s vision, mission, brand and strategic objectives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Provides strategic counsel to communications organization and colleagues around best practices, reputation management, and PR planning and execution.

Contributes to and executes a communications strategy designed to inform stakeholders and improve engagement.

Monitors local, regional, and industry news about the corporation and topics important to the company and identifies emerging issues.

Gathers department information, including collecting and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs), to create reports that demonstrate the effectiveness of communications and areas for improvement.

Assists in the development of internal and external messaging used in communications materials such as news releases, presentations, social media posts, talking points, web content, and elsewhere in support of the integrated customer organization.

Engages proactively with communications colleagues and other employees to identify business needs and goals, then crafts communication plans and materials to address those needs and goals.

Supports storm and crisis communications efforts.

Minimum Requirements Minimum education:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Communications Specialist II – 3‑5+ years of experience.

Sr. Communications Specialist – 5‑7+ years of experience.

Advertising, communications or marketing experience, especially working in a large matrixed organization or a regulated industry, are pluses.

Building internal stakeholder relationships and campaign project management experience – from planning to executing, monitoring, and evaluation – to meet business objectives are also pluses.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong writing, editing and communications planning skills, including AP style knowledge.

Ability to use or learn an array of publishing software such as Office 365, social media platforms and web content management systems.

Functional Knowledge

Positive communicator, creative thinker with strong writing skills.

Knowledge of communication best practices and how they support organizational change.

Business Expertise

Strong consulting skills, with a keen eye on industry trends and communications strategy.

Ability to understand complex situations, make correlations, and have a broad understanding of business drivers.
