Back-end Engineer – Europe
We are currently seeking a Back-end Engineer in Europe to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems that power innovative business tools. In this role you will work closely with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to build reliable APIs and services that support users across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about clean architecture, backend optimization, and delivering efficient, reliable solutions in a cloud-native environment.
Accountabilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs within a microservices architecture.
Integrate systems with relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL) and ensure efficient data handling.
Build Node.js middleware to connect backend services to frontend applications.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and frontend engineers, to deliver end-to-end solutions.
Implement best practices for security, performance, and reliability in all backend systems.
Deploy and monitor services using AWS tools (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.) and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Write unit and integration tests to ensure system stability and maintainability.
Maintain high standards for code quality through documentation, peer reviews, and adherence to best practices.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in backend development.
Strong expertise with Java (Spring Boot or similar) and Node.js frameworks.
Hands‑on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or MongoDB.
Solid understanding of RESTful API design (GraphQL experience is a plus).
Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda) and cloud‑based deployment.
Strong debugging skills and knowledge of backend architecture, distributed systems, and database optimization.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across time zones.
Commitment to writing clean, scalable, and testable code that adheres to coding standards.
Flexibility to work in European or US time zones as needed.
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with Docker and containerised applications.
Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
AWS certifications or equivalent cloud experience.
Experience in startup or high‑growth environments.
Knowledge of event‑driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
