Job Description Provides Art therapy, Music therapy, Recreational Therapy, or Drama Therapy Services to patients in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized treatment plans. The Activity Therapist also provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living.
Responsibilities Full‑time position – Days / evenings (may include weekends). Plan and implement individualized therapy programs. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment. Provide crisis intervention. Facilitate activities of daily living. Collaborate with nursing and other disciplines.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: One year experience in a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.
Licensure/Certification: Expressive/Recreation Therapy Certification (or eligibility) by the professional organization in the area of expertise preferred. Lifesaving and/or water safety instructor certification desirable.
Knowledge: Case management, discharge planning, group leadership, age‑specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management, family therapy theory and practice, psychosocial assessments. Strong organization, oral and written communication skills.
