Fairview Hospital’s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provides treatment to patients suffering from various medical problems and diagnoses, such as sepsis, respiratory problems, DKA, suicide monitoring, overdose monitoring, post‑cardiac arrest hypothermia, altered mental status, and stroke. Some of the most common procedures performed by the nursing staff in the MICU include bronchoscopy, endoscopy, emergent intubations, and central line placement.

As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers with providing exceptional care to patients from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. The Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in‑person courses to enhance your skills.

A caregiver in this position works rotating day/night shifts from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

Responsibilities

Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.

Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.

Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).

Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.

Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.

Document in patients’ medical records.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

New graduate RN or less than one year of RN work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
