Class Definition Accountant II performs lead work such as assigning, reviewing and approving the work of accounting personnel or performing specialized accounting work. This class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek in an office where conditions are normal and require minimal physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications
Have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
Have four years of experience in performing accounting work.
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience including 30 credits in accounting and business law and 6 additional credits in statistics or data processing.
Provide a transcript if you do not possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Application Deadline Please submit your application no later than 12:00 AM on the closing date to be eligible for consideration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting and routine auditing practices and procedures.
Ability to maintain accounts and compile and write financial reports.
Ability to assign and review the work of others.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Analytical ability.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and City agency representatives.
Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
Probation All selected individuals, including current City employees, must complete a mandatory six‑month probation.
Eligibility Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for at least a six‑month period. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Applications from US institutions must be US equivalent. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. Thorough and accurate application information is essential. Qualified candidates will not be listed in rank order.
Examination Process Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show they meet the qualifications. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment‑certified eligible list for at least six months.
