Production Superintendent – Shintech

Location: Freeport, TX

Shintech Inc. is the world's largest producer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). We are looking for a Production Superintendent to lead the safe and efficient operation of our chemical plant.

Primary Function The Production Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership and technical expertise to ensure the safe and efficient operation of an assigned chemical plant within a multi‑plant manufacturing site. Responsibilities include planning, directing, and controlling all aspects of the process unit, environmental and safety compliance, production, quality assurance/control, maintenance, and employee development to meet customer needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide leadership and technical expertise by establishing and implementing departmental expectations, programs, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the chemical manufacturing unit/plant.

Champion operational excellence to achieve process optimization, reliability, and metrics.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement by recommending and implementing solutions for operational systems and work processes, reducing variance, eliminating waste and non‑value added activities, and leading corrective action and problem‑solving activities.

Ensure MOCs are reviewed, actions are completed, and closed out.

Maintain accurate inventories and protect inventory and assets from potential harm and/or loss.

Support capital projects and maintenance activities.

Ensure procurement activities meet objectives and the annual plan.

Staff, manage, coach, motivate, train, and assess performance of plant employees – both exempt and non‑exempt.

Foster collaborative efforts and teamwork with subordinates, peers, and superiors – customers (internal and external).

Ensure safety, quality, and environmental performance is foundational in operations by incorporating Process Safety Management, Risk Management, Quality Management, and Environmental Management System principles.

Ensure all incidents, near misses, and investigations are conducted, root causes identified, and action items completed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (or related technical field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Five years of chemical manufacturing experience and two years of supervisory experience are required. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

Previous experience supporting PSM and an ISO‑certified site is strongly preferred.

Ability to understand and manage production schedules and meet target dates.

Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to multitask and assimilate new information quickly.

Proven people‑management skills, including employee development and conflict resolution.

Exercise sound decision making and judgment aligned with department objectives.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to modify approach to individual situations.

High proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Will be required to provide support as needed when off, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

Lift up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds frequently.

Time will be split between an office environment and in the process unit.

May require sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.

Climb stairs/ladders and work at heights.

Comply with respirator fit tests (where applicable).

Bend, reach, and stoop regularly.

Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respirators, earplugs, goggles, hard hat, and steel‑toed boots.

Work Environment

PVC manufacturing facility, in presence of chemicals.

Occasionally work in tight or closed‑in spaces.

Work performed indoors (climate controlled) and outdoors (non‑climate controlled).

Moderate noise level and environmental vibration related to equipment.
