Job Summary
The RN – Endoscopy provides nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal and related endoscopic procedures. This includes pre‑procedure preparation, intra‑procedure assistance, monitoring of sedation and patient response, and post‑procedure recovery. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high‑quality, and patient‑centered care throughout the procedural experience.
Essential Functions
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures
Administers and monitors conscious sedation and manages patient responses during procedures
Assists physicians with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasis
Monitors patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptly
Provides pre‑ and post‑procedure patient education and discharge instructions
Documents all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
Maintains a safe and clean environment, adheres to infection control and safety protocols
Handles specimens appropriately and ensures proper labeling and documentation
Participates in performance improvement initiatives and staff education
Responds effectively to emergencies and follows facility emergency protocols
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills & Expectations
Strong critical thinking and clinical decision‑making skills
Proficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway management
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment
Familiarity with endoscopic equipment, sterile technique, and procedural workflow
Competency in electronic documentation and EMR systems
Commitment to continuous professional development and team collaboration
Physical ability to assist with patient positioning and respond to clinical demands
Qualifications Education
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred
Licenses & Certifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
Basic Life Support (BLS), required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred
Experience
Minimum 6 months of clinical nursing experience in a direct patient care setting preferred
Previous endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care experience preferred
