McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
The candidate will collaborate with the Regions HR Vice President, regional leadership, and work with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify the vision, strategy and execution of the annual learning program for the region to show measurable results. The candidate will engage learners in a classroom, at the individual level, virtually and/or on-the-job through innovative solutions developed via up-to-date knowledge of best practices in organizational learning and strong knowledge of business practices. They will drive and oversee the overall strategy for existing learning programs in the region including peer groups by job role, with a focus on management and leadership training, and individual development solutions. They may oversee a team of one or more members which collectively drive the annual strategy. If so, they will also be accountable for coaching and developing those direct reports to achieve their individual development goals, in addition to the overall responsibilities outlined herein.
Responsibilities
Partner frequently with Regional leadership and HRVP to identify, create and implement a Top Talent strategy to meet region needs and support the individual business plans through innovative solutions
Provides consultative direction on learning programs and strategy with key stakeholders, and approves the regional training calendar to ensure alignment across the business
Partners with L&D Managers and Directors to identify opportunity for consistency in content, format and process across the regions for a one region, one company approach
Partners with internal and external institutes/resources to meet business need and maximize learning impact
Supports regional Talent Review strategy by driving continual meetings with Business Unit Leaders and collaborates with HRVP/HRM on individualized development plans and resources throughout the year
Ensures region L&D needs are being met by utilizing the following skills:
Instructional Design:
Collaborate and conduct needs assessments with diverse subject matter experts
Identify appropriate training approaches
Design curriculum, programs, or learning solutions as appropriate
Design and develop instructional materials in a variety of learning formats ensuring that learning technologies are leveraged where possible
Training Delivery:
Align training approach with course objectives and learner needs
Establish credibility with all audiences: field operations, regional administration, etc.
Facilitate learning, encourage participation, and motivate learners
Establish trust and credibility with learners through proven methods
Guides the discussion of complex or divisive issues to help members develop insights and remain engaged with the task
Judges when issues cannot be resolved in the group, and refocuses the dialogue on the essential goals
Program Planning and Development:
Oversee the analysis of learner feedback and other data to promote continuous improvement of development solutions
Sets the program's performance metrics and goals each year and demonstrates how select initiatives will help achieve or exceed the metric goals
Partners with HR and business leaders to set the direction for program development
Monitors and evaluates program performance metrics to ensure ongoing program improvements
Drives analysis of the workforce knowledge and skills required to effectively deliver on the organizations strategy
Select and manage resources, including working with both internal employees and external vendors to develop and deliver training, and build internal network of subject matter experts
Optimize training processes for efficiency
Manages and approves training budget and expenditures
Partners with regional subject matter experts to evaluate/adjust programs
Training Support:
Partner with Regional Human Resources team to ensure alignment with business needs, region/company initiatives and/or development support
Collaborate with the extended Learning and Development team on solution development strategy, leverage existing solutions and resources and LMS capabilities
Monitor training activities, manage content and provide recommendations for all training solutions based on business needs
Develop and maintain communications strategies such as LMS updates, schedules and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of learning and development resources
Develop solutions for ad hoc projects and initiatives in support of regional needs
Occasional travel within the region to jobsites, meetings and training events
Organizational and Coaching Support:
Partners with HRVP/HRD on coaching and ad-hoc assessment solutions for individualized learning when appropriate
Go-to resource for adult learning theories, instructional design methods, performance consulting, communications and change management
Partners with liaise to OD on teaming and leader assimilation opportunities in the region
Supports and promotes a coaching culture to increase employee engagement and improve employee/manager connections
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or Education related field preferred
Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing regional or large-scale programs
Extensive experience in learning and development program design and implementation at a large scale
Proven experience designing, developing, and facilitating training in a business setting
Demonstrated project management experience and ability to prioritize activities
Ability to assess skills and knowledge and determine what developmental solution is needed
Knowledge and experience in instructional design methods, including SME management
Independently motivated with proven ability to follow through on initiatives
Highly engaging and collaborative interpersonal skills in working cross-functionally
Design and development of instructional materials in a variety of media
Ability to encourage participation and motivate learners at all levels of an organization
Flexibility to deliver training in all formats: classroom, virtual, on-the-job, synchronous, asynchronous, etc.
Ability to travel within region with occasional overnight stay
The technical aptitude or experience to work with an LMS, online development tools, and key Microsoft Office tools
For Southern California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $120,000 to $150,000. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
