Role Description This is a 32 hr, full-time, island-based role for a Development and Communications Manager located in Bainbridge Island, WA. The Development & Communications Manager will lead our fundraising, marketing/communications, and donor events. In close partnership with the Executive Director, and alongside engaged board committees, you’ll design strategy and roll up your sleeves to execute donor stewardship, campaigns, brand communications, and signature events that grow IVC’s impact and visibility.
Development
Donor Recognition and Development Strategy: Partner with the Executive Director to plan, implement, and evaluate donor and volunteer cultivation strategies aligned with organizational goals, including timely donor acknowledgment, preparation of donor gift reports, tracking donor giving history, and managing donor cultivation and stewardship programs.
Campaign Management: Lead donor engagement and stewardship campaigns; ensure consistent, meaningful relationship-building across all channels. Manage and execute IVC’s annual fundraising calendar, coordinating appeals, campaigns, and stewardship activities.
Donor Relations: Cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors; prepare materials for donor meetings and solicitations. Establish and oversee IVC’s donor acknowledgment strategy, ensuring timely acknowledgments, reporting back to donors, and measuring efforts to increase giving over time.
Planned Giving: Develop and implement IVC’s planned giving strategy, including campaign materials, donor outreach, and stewardship of legacy donors.
Information & Technology Management: Establish, manage, and track donor metrics in Salesforce, generating reports to inform fundraising strategies.
Marketing & Communications
Strategy: Develop annual marketing and communications plans tied to the organization's strategic plan.
Collateral campaigns and annual communications: Create compelling communications and development collateral, including social media, newsletters, brochures, annual impact reports, website updates, and other outreach tools.
Digital Marketing: Develop and maintain social media including websites, social, mobile marketing and other community outreach tools. Convert/migrate print and traditional messages to digital.
Development Support: Produce development-aligned content such as press releases, blog posts, impact stories, and donor-focused email/web content.
Branding Overseer: Maintain brand consistency, tone, and messaging across all external communications.
Board Liaison and Coordinator: Collaborate with the Development and Marketing Committees to align messaging and strategies with organizational goals.
Events
Events: Serve as project lead for IVC’s annual Gala, managing event planning, sponsorships, vendor relationships, donor cultivation, and communications; key member of Auction Committee.
Donor Relations & Stewardship: Organize and execute fundraising and stewardship events, including donor and sponsorship appreciation gatherings.
Planned Giving: Establish a calendar for and execute Planned Giving small gatherings and events, including house parties, co-host educational gatherings with Estate Planning professionals and/or other similar organizations, and on-site casual coffees/happy hour for prospects.
Provide IVC event support as needed, working closely with the Auction Committee, staff, and volunteers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, nonprofit management, or related field - or equivalent experience.
Two years of fundraising experience, with a proven track record in planning, coordinating, and implementing nonprofit development strategies, while collaborating effectively with teams to achieve shared goals.
Two years of event planning experience, with emphasis on large-scale event leadership and execution.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience developing communications strategies and materials across all platforms (web, impact report, newsletters, donor communications, social).
Familiarity with Canva or similar design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) for creating professional, branded content.
Strong attention to detail; collaborative and community-oriented.
Experienced with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Zoom; familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), Squarespace, Greater Giving, and major social media platforms.
Preferred knowledge of Bainbridge Island clientele.
Must be able to work some weekends and weeknights.
