This role is a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) and Lead of HR Operations at Smithbucklin, a 650-person, employee-owned professional services company headquartered in Chicago and Washington, D.C. The position reports to the SVP & Chief People Officer and will reside in the Chicago office.
Base pay range : $120,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

What You Will Do HR Partnering
Partner with leaders and people managers to strategize and advise on talent topics, including onboarding, talent reviews, career development, succession planning, engagement, and rewards & recognition.
Collaborate with HRBP colleagues to align thinking, deliver solutions, and optimize processes.
Coach executives and managers to resolve employee relations issues and retain top talent.
Steward HR programs, practices, and policies to nurture a culture of connection and high performance, including facilitating manager training in person and virtually.
Serve as a resource, coach, advisor, and champion to 15 other HR team members.
HR Operations, Reporting & Analytics
Lead the HR Operations function.
Deliver high‑quality HR data management.
Own HRIS as a super‑user and oversee vendor relationships.
Ensure data accuracy across HR systems.
Recommend and own HR metrics and reporting.
Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements; oversee annual handbook review and policy execution.
Supervise, develop, and coach HR Operations specialists.
Compensation
Oversee compensation practices across the company.
Lead market data collection, analysis, and range recommendations.
Develop systems to report salary ranges for internal equity and external postings.
Collaborate with HRBPs and stakeholders on offers, increases, and budgets.

Minimum 15 years progressive HR experience across multiple functions (HR operations, employee relations, law, compensation, performance management, employee engagement).
Prior experience as a people manager.
Minimum 5 years HRBP experience in a large or mid‑sized matrixed professional services environment spanning multiple U.S. locations.
Proven ability to develop strategic partnerships with leaders and influence key decisions.
Demonstrated ability to manage HR at both strategic and tactical levels.

The salary for this role will be based on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. Successful candidates may qualify for a discretionary bonus up to 10%–15% of base pay. Expected pay: $120,000–$150,000.
