General Manager – Transportation
Clean Harbors
is a leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America. This role will oversee and manage National Transportation drivers to ensure safe and compliant operations. Position may require travel up to 10–25% of the time.
Responsibilities
Ensure that health and safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
Manage assigned drivers including financial KPIs, budgets, forecasting, and P&L measurements to reduce transportation expense.
Review, manage and improve load efficiencies, driver work hours, loads per hour, week and month.
Collaborate with HR and recruiting for driver hiring and retention.
Oversee driver and equipment utilization and maintenance.
Mentor, coach, and develop the driver pool and manage progress through CHES CBPP programs.
Investigate and manage all accidents and near‑miss incidents to drive continuous safety improvement.
Support internal and external customers with transportation pricing and execution.
Approve daily driver applications, payroll, fuel, Pcard, lodging, ELD HOS, and time‑off requests.
Dispatch and interface with assigned drivers, ensuring optimal customer service across regions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline preferred.
P&L experience.
5+ years of transportation experience.
5 years of experience at manager level or higher.
Experience in the environmental industry; knowledge of environmental industry.
Operational experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of profit improvement.
Proficiency in Windows based applications.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry up to 50 lbs.
