Certis Solutions is a rapidly growing AEC staffing firm seeking a highly skilled and hands-on
Director of Finance
to oversee all financial operations, lead accounting and payroll functions, and drive strategic financial initiatives.
This role serves as the company’s financial executive — managing all core finance activities in-house, including payroll, billing, collections, tax compliance, banking, and financial planning. The Director of Finance will lead a small team and collaborate with executive leadership to optimize profitability, streamline operations, and support the company’s continued growth. This position requires a blend of tactical accounting expertise, operational management, and strategic planning skills.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy
Oversee all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and cost management.
Develop and implement financial strategies that align with company growth goals.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
Provide weekly profitability, cash flow, and AR reports to leadership.
Identify and execute process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Partner with executive leadership on financial planning, corporate structure, and long-term forecasting.
Payroll & Compensation Management
Manage bi-weekly internal payroll, commissions, and 401(k) contributions.
Ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper handling of deductions and benefits.
Oversee pay structures, job offers, pay changes, and final pay processing.
Optimize payroll design for cost-efficiency and compliance (e.g., hourly vs. salaried analysis).
Accounts Receivable & Collections
Oversee all client billing and collections; ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
Enforce structured AR tracking and payment policies.
Collaborate with sales and recruitment teams to resolve billing disputes.
Maintain low AR delinquency and strong cash flow through proactive collections.
Banking & Cash Flow Management
Manage company banking relationships and daily cash flow operations.
Reconcile bank accounts daily and approve Positive Pay transactions.
Optimize interest-earning opportunities and oversee debt/LOC management.
Secure and maintain lines of credit to support liquidity and growth initiatives.
Tax Compliance & Optimization
Handle all state and federal tax payments, filings, and 1099 processes.
Coordinate annual tax preparation and filings with the external CPA firm.
Lead tax optimization efforts (e.g., entity structuring, expense allocations).
Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements.
Expense Management & Reporting
Oversee accounts payable and vendor payments; identify cost-saving opportunities.
Review invoices for accuracy and prevent unnecessary spending.
Maintain structured expense policies and enforce compliance company-wide.
Provide leadership with accurate, timely reports on financial health, profitability, and trends.
Team Management & Development
Directly supervise payroll and billing staff, ensuring performance and accuracy.
Train and develop team members to handle financial operations independently.
Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Prerequisites
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
Minimum
7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience .
Minimum
3+ years in a leadership role
overseeing accounting operations or finance teams.
Staffing, recruiting, or professional services industry experience strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with
QuickBooks Desktop or Online
and
Excel
(pivot tables, advanced formulas).
Familiarity with
ADP Workforce Now
or similar payroll platforms.
Experience managing
401(k) plans ,
banking relationships , and
lines of credit .
Strong understanding of
GAAP principles ,
AR/AP cycles , and
financial reporting .
