Overview
Greater Philadelphia YMCA Employment Opportunity! The Sports and Camp Director is responsible for developing, managing and implementing the overall strategy for delivering programs and services that are responsive to member and participant needs. The role includes managing, developing, implementing and enhancing programs for youth sports, Teens, and camps; providing leadership in the development, implementation, promotion and administration of all Day Camp programs; managing all aspects of the Camp facility to promote a clean, safe and friendly environment; and communicating and working cooperatively with other departments. The Director will recruit members to volunteer for program delivery, develop and maintain relationships with volunteers, establish a consistent presence in the YMCA’s service region, and connect with surrounding area school districts. The position also involves developing and implementing training programs to build a work culture responsive to members’ program wants and needs, and establishing relationships, contacts, and resources to position the branch for success in the community. Bachelor Degree in Education, Recreation or related field with 3 years of working with youth and 3 years of camp experience Experience in staff supervision, committees and in providing leadership to groups Proven success in developing and managing camp programs Ability to operate PC, use spreadsheets, word processing and related software Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to recruit and motivate staff Responsibilities
Develop and deliver high quality Sports, Teen, and Camp programs that meet the needs of the community Ensure quality program delivery and effective use of resources including staff, volunteers and equipment within established budget Provide direct leadership to teach, coach and lead programs and services as appropriately assigned Monitor the gymnasium and ensure appropriate behavior in line with YMCA standards Coordinate ordering of team shirts, supplies, equipment; ensure league program teams are organized; ensure volunteers and staff are properly trained in YMCA policies Recruit, train, supervise and develop staff and volunteers to conduct programs; prepare descriptions, establish standards, and monitor programs; plan and conduct Camp staff training at the beginning of camp and ongoing trainings Create staff schedules, monitor time sheets, complete payroll, and manage departmental budget relating to staff salaries Develop partnerships with community organizations to promote YMCA programs; seek sponsorship, financial support or volunteer opportunities; utilize resources to advance YMCA mission Assist with special events and ensure community participation in Healthy Kids Day Coordinate program registration, promotion, open houses, and communications; ensure clear information for all participants Awareness of DHS regulatory standards regarding licensing, staff/child ratios and program delivery Knowledge of YMCA Camp programs, procedures and policies Documentation such as rosters, registration status, weekly statistics, parent newsletters and third-party payments for Camp Daily evaluation of equipment and facilities; address safety and cleanliness issues Ensure Camp auditing and ACA standards compliance Collaborate with Leaders to schedule activities in gym, pool and other spaces; communicate needs and concerns in oral and written form Develop positive relationships with parents and families of participants Maintain a safe facility by inspecting First Aid kits, incident reporting procedures and staff training for emergencies Supervise all camp participants during facility time, transport and field trips according to YMCA policies Develop departmental budgets and monitor financial statements; achieve budgetary objectives Contribute to Quality Teams relevant to program areas Participate in management team for branch operations; engage in Annual Support Campaign and other development activities as appropriate Attend staff meetings, trainings and weekly core staff meetings to discuss program successes and needs; address identified requirements Perform other related duties as assigned Equal Opportunity
