Job Description Verve, a part of Rockwell Automation, is on a mission to secure the world’s critical infrastructure providers by bringing the tools and techniques of defense‑in‑depth strategies employed by best‑in‑breed IT practices to OT (Operational Technology). We are a team of software developers, controls engineers, product managers, designers, and security professionals working to build software solutions that keep the bedrock of modern‑day life safe: power, oil, gas, water, chemicals, medicine and other industries. We are seeking a dynamic Research Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of researching third‑party software and hardware, supporting our development team’s integration efforts. You will report to the Manager, Software Engineering and have a hybrid schedule working in Milwaukee, WI.

Your Responsibilities

Conduct research on third‑party software, devices, and APIs.

Document the functionality and integration points of third‑party software, devices, and APIs.

Collaborate with the development team to ensure accurate and detailed research findings.

Develop Python proof of concepts to demonstrate integration capabilities.

Collaborate with delivery staff and industry partners to gather and analyze data from the field.

The Essentials - You Will Have

Bachelors degree or equivalent years of experience

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have

Hands‑on experience with specialized industrial hardware including Rockwell, Siemens, and Schneider Electric systems, as well as protocols such as EtherNet/IP, BACnet, and Modbus.

Familiarity with various API types (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, etc.).

Familiarity with HTTP, SSH, SNMP, or Modbus.

Excellent research, analytical, and technical documentation skills.

Basic knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language.

Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware, Proxmox, or Hyper‑V.

Proficiency in tools such as Wireshark, Postman, Nmap, or Burp Suite.

Familiarity with various tools in the IT security space such as backup, patching, and network management solutions.
