Department of Transportation Job Description and Duties

The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structures and Engineering Services, Office of Electrical, Mechanical, Water, and Wastewater (OEMWW), is recruiting for a Transportation Engineer (Electrical) position, located in Sacramento. This position exists within the Office of Electrical, Mechanical, Water & Wastewater Engineering (OEMWW). Under the direction of a Senior Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), incumbent will perform electrical engineering design, specification writing, estimating, and inspection work involved in the design, construction and maintenance of Department facilities and systems. Facilities include: storm water drainage pumping plants, sewage lift stations, vehicular tunnels, movable bridges, safety roadside rest areas, highway maintenance stations, equipment repair shops, toll plazas, truck weigh and inspection facilities, office buildings, water and wastewater facilities, and other transportation-related facilities. Systems include power distribution, lighting, communication, SCADA, complex PLC controls, EV charging stations, photovoltaic and security. Traveling and driving to various locations and field inspections are required. PARF# 59-6-100 / JC-496659 Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. Duty Statement . Working Conditions

Position located at 1801 30th Street, FMP I, Sacramento, CA 95816, Sacramento County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned vehicle, leased vehicle or personal vehicle to perform these duties. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required. Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. SOQ must be typed and no more than 1 page, single‑spaced, using 12‑point font.
