Position Summary The Volunteer Center Manager oversees our volunteer center and is responsible for planning and running Volunteer Center projects, managing, leading, and training staff and volunteers (upwards of 100+ volunteers a day) while providing a meaningful and productive experience. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, this position performs duties related to the rescue and distribution of products to MANNA’s service area using Feeding America guidelines while following good food safety practices identified in the AIB standards for Distribution Centers. The Volunteer Center Manager provides both leadership and oversight as well as hands‑on, physical support working alongside volunteers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and manage the Volunteer Center staff team, plan and supervise volunteer projects, and operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts to support the team in moving product.

Effectively manage logistics within the warehouse, including loading and unloading trucks and organizing and cleaning the warehouse for maximum output by volunteers.

Provide direction, training, supervision, coaching and performance management of all direct reports; ensure all VC team members are trained on warehouse equipment.

Develop and monitor the department budget, track and report on data and performance for the volunteer center, prepare inventory and product reports, perform weekly inventory counts, and keep accurate records.

Maintain objectives, goals, and work plans for the team and organization.

Utilize communication and public speaking skills to present basic hunger education and MANNA statistics to groups and answer related questions.

Uphold food and health safety standards: maintain a safe and clean environment for volunteers and staff in accordance with OSHA, Feeding America, AIB, and local health department regulations.

Manage the daily implementation and practice of AIB standards to ensure food safety and good sanitation practices throughout MANNA Food Bank; monitor compliance with all food repacking regulations and state labeling requirements.

Work closely with MANNA’s Safety Manager in ensuring a safe work environment.

Collaborate with other teams at MANNA for efficient product management and logistics, including but not limited to Reclaim, Youth Programs, Distribution, Transportation, Inventory, and Resource Development.

Participate in planning, coordination, and execution of MANNA’s special events each calendar year (Midnight MANNA, Student Food Drive, NALC Food Drive, Empty Bowls, Mountain State Fair Food Drive, United Way Days of Caring, Ingles Giving Tree, Gift Wrapping Table).

Train and provide follow‑up and regular support to staff so they can work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers.

Develop, administer, and review policies, job descriptions, and procedures that guide volunteer programs and services, reflecting the overall values of MANNA Foodbank.

Create, administer, and monitor expenditures for the volunteer program against the approved budget.

Requirements Qualifications

Education/Experience:

a range from a high school diploma with five years of related experience to a four‑year degree with three years of experience.

Fields may include non‑profit management, program management, food systems, public health, or related areas.

Proof of a current, valid Driver’s License, auto insurance, use of a personal vehicle, and a clean MVR.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate and participate in virtual meetings and conferences.

Program management experience translating strategic initiatives into collaborative programming with community partners; designing outcomes and evaluating program results.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.

Maintains a professional appearance at all times and represents MANNA in diverse settings.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and communicate well within a remote team.

Must possess basic knowledge of and commitment to the mission of MANNA Foodbank.

Must demonstrate sensitivity and passion related to issues of poverty and hunger relief.

Experience working with volunteers preferred.

Flexible schedule availability for evenings and weekends as needed.

Working Conditions Work will be performed in a warehouse environment that can be hot or cold depending on the season. The noise level is moderate to moderate‑loud. The work environment is dynamic, requiring frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Physical Demands Hands‑on physical work, frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Occasionally climbs or balances. Regular lifting and moving objects up to 25 lbs. Vision requirements include visual acuity for operating motor vehicles and using a computer. Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and communicate verbally.

Travel Routine travel may be required within the service area. Current driver’s license, auto insurance, and clean MVR are required.

Schedule Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends as needed. Typical schedule: Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–4 p.m. with additional evening and weekend hours as required.

Compensation & Benefits The starting pay for the Volunteer Center Manager is $56,778 – $59,932 annually. MANNA also offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
