Overview We are seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our team in designing and permitting plans for solid waste engineering projects. You will utilize AutoCAD/Civil 3D to create comprehensive engineering plans for landfills, transfer stations, and recycling facilities. Your role will involve developing plans related to grading, landfill gas collection systems, landfill cell construction, infrastructure construction, storm water management, earthwork, and erosion control. You will also conduct occasional site visits and prepare Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) reports and provide technical oversight to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
Utilize AutoCAD/Civil 3D for solid waste engineering design and permitting plans.
Create full set engineering plans including grading, landfill gas collection systems, landfill cell construction, and infrastructure construction.
Manage storm water management, earthwork, and erosion control.
Conduct site visits and prepare CQA reports.
Provide technical oversight to junior engineers.
Lead projects from start to finish.
Essential Skills
Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
3‑5 years of experience in landfill gas design.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
40‑hour OSHA certification is required.
Experience in CQA and site visits.
Ability to put together site plan drawings.
Work Environment This position is based in our growing IL office, part of a family‑oriented company culture. Initially, you will work in the office five days a week for the first 3‑6 months, with flexibility offered thereafter. Standard hours are from 8‑5. You will have your own computer and workspace. Approximately 25% of your work will involve site visits, for which you will use your own vehicle, with mileage reimbursement provided. Occasional overnight stays may be required. The company provides a supportive environment with opportunities for professional growth, including the potential to advance to a Project Manager role.
