Summary The Senior Electrical Designer Level 4 is responsible for developing and optimizing electrical designs, interconnection studies, and power distribution layouts for utility‑scale solar and BESS projects. This role requires proficiency in large‑scale electrical system design, grounding design, cable routing, and protective device coordination. The Senior Designer 4 will collaborate with cross‑functional and multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient and compliant electrical designs and lead the design process for Utility Scale PV and BESS projects.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Electrical System Design – complete design tasks related to utility scale solar and BESS projects independently.

Coordinate with Engineering teams, construction managers and permitting agencies.

Conduct site visits to validate project designs.

Lead evaluation and assessment of project locations and design requirements.

Support QA/QC reviews of design drawings, plans, construction documentation to ensure alignment with EPC execution requirements.

Take ownership of design drawings and reports.

Lead and oversee the development of PV and BESS projects.

Interpret and adhere to design standards (federal, state and owner driven).

Complete utility‑scale solar and BESS permitting, site optimization techniques and modeling.

Contribute to best practices and implement regulatory changes.

Work requires minimal correction or oversight; anticipates design issues and avoids recurring mistakes.

Suggest improvements to drawing templates, CAD standards or processes.

Accurately estimate time to complete full drawing packages and plan work to meet deadlines.

Review cross‑discipline drawing interfaces thoroughly to ensure few secondary reviews.

Guide multidisciplinary design teams to reach consensus, summarize and champion the final path forward, fostering collaboration.

Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

7 years of experience in solar electrical design.

Proficiency with PV and BESS site design.

Competency in leading teams to complete PV and BESS designs.

Software skills: AutoCAD (expert proficiency), PVCase or similar.

Optional: AutoCAD certification.

Physical Demands

Stationary position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day.

Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk.

Carry weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects up to 10 pounds.

Hearing and speech: frequently communicate with ability to hear and talk on a regular basis.

Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far.

Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors.

Travel: up to 30% as needed.

Work Environment

Regular professional, office business setting.

Noise level ranges from low to moderate in office; moderate to high on construction worksite.

May transition to onsite or hybrid arrangement as determined by business needs and department head.
