RSCH Core Facilities – Job Description
The Electron Microscopy Core at the University of Missouri is pleased to announce the opening of a Scientist. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Scientist are to ensure the reliable operations of HRTEM and FIB-SEM instruments; provide expertise and training for the research groups in the entire UM system that need high-level TEM imaging and spectroscopy data analysis; and develop cutting-edge microscopy techniques to help the PIs succeed.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoots and maintains the high-end transmission electron microscope (TEM) and FIB-SEM.
Develops and implements user SOPs for these instruments.
Trains and supervises users on these instruments.
Provides technical expertise in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments performed on these instruments.
Provides "fee-for-service" imaging experiments for internal and external clients.
Participates in the PI's research activities.
Publishes scientific papers with the Core Director in EM technology advancement.
Assists the EM Core billing.
Successful candidates will have exceptional organizational and time management skills. They must demonstrate the following durable skills: collaboration, communication, critical thinking, mindfulness, growth mindset, fortitude, confidentiality, integrity, and a commitment to the university's values.
Shift Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; occasional nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in a related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, with five plus years of experience relevant to electron microscopy characterization and nanoscience.
Research experience at an academic, industrial or other research institution developing solutions requires expertise in transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy.
Knowledge of 4D-STEM analysis.
Experience implementing and testing in Situ TEM solutions.
Prioritize tasks to complete multiple experiments timely.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the desire and ability to collaborate with multiple research groups across disciplines.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $85,000.00 per year
