Overview As a member of the surgical services team, provides care to perioperative patients ranging in age from neonates to geriatrics in a level‑one trauma center. The Iowa Methodist campus has 16 OR suites providing a wide range of surgical services including cardiac, transplant, orthopedics, plastics, general surgery, pediatrics, neurosurgery, urology, gynecology, ENT, and vascular surgery. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses and the Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other caregivers.

In addition, the team leader collaborates with the OR management team to coordinate staff, supplies, and instruments for their assigned specialties. The team leader also collaborates with physicians and other health care workers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and assist manager/supervisor with daily operations of specialty team.

Contribute to the maintenance of high‑quality, cost‑effective patient care by communicating with scheduling, physicians, and team members regarding upcoming procedures.

Provide clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility and growth of team members.

Act as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective teamwork.

Evaluate and coach team members relative to job performance to achieve a high level of productivity and quality care.

Provide input regarding team members' performance to supervisors/managers.

Act as a liaison between physicians and sales representatives to ensure hospital and department policy is followed.

Actively participate in value analysis. Act as a mentor and resource to educate team members and physicians on the concepts and philosophies of value purchasing.

Qualifications Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or Iowa Board of Nursing approved nursing program.

License(s)/Certification(s)

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.

Experience

Three years of operating room experience.

Other

Level 3 medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Shift

Mon‑Fri | 6:30am‑3pm with on call.
