Position Summary: The Quality Engineer 3 will design, develop, and execute quality assurance and control systems. Use expertise and judgment to implement a wide variety of quality concepts, practices, and procedures. Contribute to product and manufacturing process design, as well as methods for verification/validation of product and services to ensure adherence to company/customer requirements. Works toward the prevention and/or resolution of product and manufacturing process non-conformances. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Sets the standard for working safely and following all safety policies, leading by example, and participating in companywide and department safety events. Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component. Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes. Reviews all purchased products or components and provides input to the decision of whether to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor. Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures. Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities. Defines robust quality and inspection plans for programs or projects under guidance or using previous bodies of knowledge. Interprets design documents and specifications to extract and document the quality function deliverables. Reviews CMM or inspection data for the qualification of new product and production tooling Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management. Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities. Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management. Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards. Develops training documentation for specific processes in compliance with customer and quality requirements. Facilitates first article inspections including the approval and submittal of related reports (FAIRs). Participates in or leads continuous improvement projects to eliminate scrap and reduce rework operations. Works with operations management to establish, implement and maintain the quality management system. Interfaces with engineering design teams to drive changes for quality improvement. During manufacturing process and product design reviews, ensures that related quality considerations are well defined and documented in quality and inspection plans. Participates in or leads root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns. Supports and leads the Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system. Conducts audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audit findings reports and determine proper corrective and preventative actions. Analyzes quality escapes and drives corrective or preventative action in response. Ensures timely resolution of Supplier Corrective Action Reports for assigned suppliers. Tracks and reports on quality metrics and reports to management and customers. Updates and maintains process control plans, PFMEAs and FMEAs. Reviews and/or prepares documentation to support product/system delivery, including configuration and documentation verification. Dispositions discrepant materials as identified by internal departments or customers. Analyzes and reports on process performance with emphasis on “critical to” and “cost of” quality. Maintains company quality documentation, including material, product, and system acceptance test plans. Responsible for coordinating assigned suppliers and verifying quality standards in accordance with established requirements, which includes, but is not limited to performing regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and actively participating in strategic development based on quality control plans. Serve as the liaison for assigned suppliers, suggest structural quality and process improvements, and collaborate with other engineers in a team environment. Identifies technical problems with suppliers and assists with implementing Supplier Correction Action Reports (SCAR) Responsible for managing supplier scorecards, facilitating resolution of below standard scores, and keeping Supply Chain informed of supplier scores. Required Skills: Trouble shooting skills with focus on process improvement. Lean manufacturing basics Strong organization and planning skills. Proficient use of Microsoft applications ASQ Quality Engineer certification (desired) Knowledge of AS9100 and NADCAP systems Knowledge of gauging methodology and metrology Understanding of assembly methods, fixtures, tooling, and fabrication methods Experience in Quality Assurance within the aerospace industry and a manufacturing environment Demonstrated skills in statistical analysis, process control, and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Strong project management skills Six Sigma certification (desired) Required Experience: Knowledge of manufacturing and quality systems; aerospace preferred. Experience with Frozen Planning and Flight Safety Typically, 10 years of experience Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or university; in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline. Minimum of 10 years’ experience as an Engineer at a manufacturing related company.
