Facilities Engineer II – Facilities Full Time Evenings
Location: Lake Forest Hospital
Salary range: $30.75 – $41.52 per hour
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 2:30 p to 11 p (40 hrs per week)

Description This full‑time position is located at Lake Forest Hospital and requires 40 hours per week on a Tuesday‑Saturday 2:30 p to 11 p schedule.
The Facilities Engineer II reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
As a licensed operating engineer, you will operate and maintain building mechanical systems and equipment. Power plant equipment includes high‑pressure boilers, chillers, and medical air compressors. Your goals will be to operate the equipment safely, efficiently, and reliably with minimal unscheduled shutdowns, while providing comfortable conditions and safe ambient space for occupants.
Responsibilities
Operate and assist in maintaining and repairing all power plant equipment with minor supervision.
Operate high‑pressure boilers, chillers, cooling towers, domestic hot water heating system, water heating system, generators, electrical switchgear, and energy management system.
Properly perform safety checks on plant equipment, perform repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
Clean and paint equipment, piping, and associated accessories in power plant and mechanical rooms.
Chemically analyze boiler, chiller, cooling tower, and all closed‑loop systems.
Perform chemical analysis tests and add the correct amount of chemicals to maintain prescribed balances.
Change and dispose of chemical drums properly and use appropriate safety equipment when working with chemicals.
Respond to plant emergencies and know the location of firefighting equipment.
Respond to service requests and perform problem assessment, troubleshooting, correction, and documentation.
Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections in accordance with organizational and regulatory protocols, policies, and standards.
Operate facility equipment and systems routinely and as needed in a safe and efficient manner.
Assist contractors/vendors with repairs, maintenance, and construction.
Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
2–3 years of relevant building maintenance experience.
Technical training in maintenance field; HVAC/R trade school certification or equivalent.
Licensed as a Stationary Engineer or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Valid driver’s license (must provide driving abstract).
Physical demands: lift/carry up to 70 pounds and push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
Preferred
Hospital or military experience.
One year of training in Boiler Maintenance.
Current universal refrigerant certification.
