Overview Transmission Engineer III role at TRC Companies, Inc. The position is part of TRC Power Delivery, delivering design and planning services for transmission and related projects up to 500 kV with ongoing fiber-optic work.

Responsibilities

Preliminary design and budgetary estimates for projects ranging from 115 kV to 500 kV, including planning for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachments.

Develop material lists in Excel spreadsheets.

Develop structure framing details, specifying parts, hardware, insulators, and grounding for different pole materials (steel, round wood, laminated wood).

Be familiar with environmental and licensing processes and coordinate issues in the transmission line design process.

Site new transmission lines and coordinate the impacts of real estate, licensing, and environmental constraints on the engineering process.

Develop project schedules covering design, client reviews, licensing, and related activities for successful completion.

Develop plan-profile drawings under supervision.

Develop complete design packages for construction, including work lists, staking tables, and sag charts.

Develop material and construction specifications and perform engineering calculations to assure safety and performance.

Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.

Assist in checking the adequacy of design and documentation for completed jobs.

Monitor construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, including acting as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude where applicable, and addressing safety, plan interpretation, code compliance, and schedule considerations.

Support on-site design or investigation work to ensure contractor methods meet requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field.

5+ years of experience in electrical transmission line design engineering.

P.E. preferred, or EIT with ability to become certified as a professional engineer when eligible.

Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling (PLS-CADD and modules such as POLE, TOWER), Excel, MFAD or LPILE, NESC.

Knowledge in ACI, ASCE Pole Manual, AISC Steel Manual preferred but not required.

Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and practices for electric utility design.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, leadership ability, and attention to detail.

Compensation Salary range: USD $93,000.00 – USD $149,000.00 per year. Compensation varies by experience, education, skill level, location, and other factors.
