The Student Technician will provide support to the Lab Machine Shop Lead while following established procedures on routine work. In this role the Student Technician will perform engineering or scientific services that may include but are not limited to the following (in compliance with current industry and Government practices): Set up, assemble, install or build components of experimental apparatus or equipment Support tests and evaluation Support a clean and orderly work environment Assist with process and productivity improvement Help manage the machine shop chemical inventory Assist in control of machine shop consumables Maintain machine shop equipment Monitor work progress and compliance with policies and procedures Read, interpret, and follow work orders, blueprints, and work instructions Interface with research staff and other lab staff to produce quality outputs Education
Must be a currently student enrolled in an accredited machining program Requirements
Exhibits high initiative Experience with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word and Excel Able to operate multiple machine types, to include manual lathe, manual mill, saws, grinders, and various hand tools Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment Must be able to work out of the EPRI Charlotte Office Physical Requirements
Ability to climb ladders and work platforms Ability to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods Safety Requirements
Promote and support a safe work environment Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safety glasses and ear protection Ideal Candidate
Basic machinist skills Familiar with working in laboratory and industrial environments Ability to apply a basic, working knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry Knowledge of 5S principles, lean manufacturing, six sigma, or other continual improvement process Knowledge of OSHA General Industry safety & health requirements This is an onsite part-time role out of our Charlotte office. Compensation
The hourly rate range for Student positions is: Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour Masters: $25-31 per hour Ph.D: $27-34 per hour These ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant\'s geographic location. As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance. For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses. EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee\'s I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
