Reports To: VP, Engineering

Compensation: $145,000-$210,000; bonus eligible

Job Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the Senior Manager / Director of Project Engineering will play a key role in the technical execution of utility‑scale renewable energy projects, with a focus on solar, wind, and battery storage. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in engineering design & management, particularly in the Mid‑Atlantic / Southeast regions, and will be adept at acting as a technical interface with EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, interconnecting utilities, Project Delivery, Procurement, and other internal stakeholders to optimize project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical execution of renewable energy projects from late‑stage development through commercial operation

Ensure project compliance with industry standards, ISO/Utility/NERC standards, and other regulations related to project construction & TerraForm Power technical specifications

Collaborate with development teams to ensure seamless transition from development to construction

Prepare and review scopes of work, drawing packages, technical submittals, and responses to RFIs

Work with EPCs, Project Delivery, Operations Engineering, and Development Engineering to optimize project outcomes and incorporate lessons learned

Support contract execution with EPCs and key equipment suppliers, ensuring alignment with technical requirements

Provide on‑site field support when needed, including troubleshooting and quality control inspections

Develop and maintain TerraForm project delivery technical specifications

Support project commissioning and successful handoff to Operations

Evaluate new technologies and lead the technical evaluation of equipment vendors

Mentor and manage a small team of junior and mid‑level project engineers, fostering professional growth and high performance

Support regular project reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders

Champion engineering excellence by overseeing all phases of project engineering, from design through commissioning, ensuring projects meet the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical experience required

Minimum 6 years of experience in power engineering, with at least 3‑5 years in renewable energy engineering

Broad technical understanding of utility‑scale solar, wind, and/or battery storage project delivery, ideally in Virginia and neighboring states

Experience with permitting and interconnection processes in the PJM and SERC regions

Strong understanding of major equipment specification & procurement, EPC contract scopes of work, and engineering & construction technical specifications

Experience with project energy modeling and optimization, including PVsyst or similar yield estimation software

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality work product

Well organized; able to manage a myriad of competing priorities

Ability to work on own initiative as well as with a team

Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary for building community internally and trust externally

Willingness to travel as needed; regular presence at the Charlottesville, VA office preferred

Ability to work & thrive in a generally fast‑paced office environment
