Overview Outsourced to Aon’s client, this position is responsible to assist the client Director, Risk Management in all aspects of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulatory compliance for our company-owned fleet, drivers, and third-party carriers.
The position will also effectively monitor changes within the safety and environmental standards to ensure changes are communicated and reflected in all training and procedural documents. Assists with other risk management responsibilities where needed including property loss control/fire protection standards and catastrophic disasters as needed.
The position will identify, create, maintain, and administer safety solutions that address hazards, claims, and trends in the organization.
Responsibilities
Manage DOT and FMCSA compliance ensuring full compliance across company operations.
Manage timely and accurate submission of all regulatory filings and documentation
Monitor compliance with hours of service (HOS) regulations, where applicable
Lead driver-related incident investigations and corrective action plans
Conduct periodic internal audits of internal and external compliance processes & systems
Track and report on Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) scores and accident history
Collaborate, maintain and update fleet safety & maintenance programs that also includes the benchmarks for compliance both with company programs and DOT requirements
Analyze claim data and develop programs to prevent claims from occurring.
Collaborate with legal teams during litigation, audits, and investigations
Oversee compliance related to the transportation of Hazardous Materials, (HAZMAT), where applicable
Support compliance related to Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations
Stay abreast of DOT & OSHA regulatory changes and communicate updates across stakeholders
Work with Safety Manager on new projects / programs to identify safety risks and develop training programs to address these risks, including the review of fleet safety
Assist with property loss control/fire protection program for owned or leased locations and responses to catastrophic property losses, as needed
Research Industry Best Practices and stay abreast of changes or developments in the industry that increases safety and adds value to drivers, to include identifying systems, technology, etc
May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or minimum of 2 years of work-related experience in occupational health and safety, retail preferred; any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
Certifications
Certifications - ASP or CSP or related certification, preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Training/Systems
Ability to analytically review data to determine actions/responses to issues or trends
Proficient in working with Microsoft Office, especially Power Point & Excel
Completion of OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification
Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA processes and regulations including methods, techniques, and procedures involved in driver DOT compliance
Organized with ability to prioritize and multi-task
Proficient at creating and delivering online and in person training to employees
Ability to coordinate programs, prepare reports and maintain accurate records in risk management system(s).
Ability to work independently, extended hours, weekends and holidays, as needed.
Ability to communicate in English at an intermediate-advanced level (orally and in writing)
