Overview
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse Oncology Navigator for the Medical Oncology and Infusion Center in Charlottesville, VA. The position is full time, day shift, 36 hours per week (8‑hour shifts Monday to Friday, no nights or weekends). OCN certified nurses in both the Infusion Center and Medical oncology clinic are preferred.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary contact for patients experiencing Head, Neck, and Lung cancers, providing empathetic support and comprehensive education on cancer diagnoses and treatment options.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate surgical schedules, perform insurance pre‑authorizations, and facilitate timely access to appointments and tests.
Advocate for patients, addressing concerns, ensuring their voices are heard, and guiding them to wellness and supportive care services.
Assist patients in navigating their treatment journey from diagnosis to survivorship with reassurance and clarity.
Education
Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing required.
BSN or MSN preferred.
Certification / Licensure
Specialty certification required within one year of eligibility (OCN or other Oncology Certification).
Registered Nurse licensure.
ONC certified RN preferred.
BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Experience
3 years of Acute Care nursing experience required.
1 year of navigator or education experience preferred.
Oncology nursing experience preferred.
Head, Neck, and Lung cancer experience preferred.
