IAT Insurance Group has an immediate need for a Surety Claims Counsel that can be located at any IAT location. The ideal person may work remote. This role reports to the VP, Claims Counsel and works closely with the SVP, Legal. The Surety Claims Counsel is responsible for reviewing, investigating, resolving and negotiating performance bond defaults, payment bond claims, subdivision and commercial bond claims. The schedule is hybrid from any IAT Office Monday through Wednesday, with the option to work Thursday and Friday remotely.
Responsibilities
Interact with attorneys, claimants, owners and other parties, as well as field management staff to resolve claims issues and ensure cost‑effective solutions.
Draft and negotiate the necessary documents for each situation, such as Surety Takeover and/or Completion Agreements, settlement agreements, releases, correspondence, reports and exposure analyses.
Collaborate closely with underwriters in assigned regions.
Review and analyze work‑in‑progress schedules, costs to complete, accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
Supervise outside counsel and consultants’ bills before submission for approval.
Recommend reserves.
Manage litigation and salvage recovery actions.
Analyze payment bond claims and make recommendations regarding payment.
Select, develop, motivate and train staff to achieve objectives.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of developments in statutes, regulations, and case‑law in assigned regions.
Monitor and evaluate employee performance.
Perform other job‑related duties as required.
Qualifications
JD with 4+ years of relevant Surety Claims and/or Construction Law experience.
Licensed insurance adjuster or ability to obtain an insurance adjuster license in assigned regions, or license with reciprocity to assigned regions.
Ability to travel as needed.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require, now or in the future, visa sponsorship for employment purposes.
Compensation The annual gross salary range for this position is $82,960 – $180,450. Total compensation will include a base salary, performance‑based bonus opportunities, 401(k) match, profit‑sharing opportunities, and more. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location.
