Job Overview The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive patient care in the obstetric setting during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. Responsibilities include assessing maternal and fetal health, administering treatments, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, managing obstetric emergencies, and educating patients and families.
Responsibilities
Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
Prepare equipment and assist physician during labor, delivery, and examination.
Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization.
Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members.
Respond to obstetric emergencies using evidence‑based protocols.
Document patient care and interventions accurately.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results.
Assist in cesarean sections and other procedures.
Comply with all regulatory and hospital policies.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing.
Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as a Labor and Delivery RN.
Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA/ARC.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Certification.
Stable and ACLS Certifications (AHA/ARC).
Other relevant certifications and licenses.
Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, interpersonal communication.
English proficiency for reading, writing, and oral communication.
Technical/motor skills for fine manipulation and equipment handling.
Physical ability to remain in stationary position, move equipment, push/pull, and bend.
Ability to work under pressure and close supervision.
Attention to detail and concentration under irregular activity schedules.
Visual acuity and effective communication skills.
